Many people do not realize the advantages of decorating their homes with vintage items. Of course there is the Mother Earth friendly side to it (which is always a plus), the economic side, as well as a vibrant showcase of your own individuality. As I am hunting flea markets and old warehouses for industrial gems of the past, I scoop them up in excitement. Perhaps it's because I know something that the other passers-by don't. Those rusty dusty items are truly gems in disguise. I've decided to share with you a few great ways to decorate your home using vintage industrial items. You can create a modern and welcoming look, using not so modern items. You'll be sure to get lot's of "ohhhs" and "ahhhs" at your next get-together. 

Vintage Signs as Decoration

For a fraction of the price, you can spruce up a boys room using vintage road signs! The best part is, it's a style that can grow with them as the years pass!

Bathroom

Below are some examples from my own guest bathroom. I decided on the Americana theme with an Industrial flare (it's still currently a work in progress). These were all items I purchased online to create the theme. I used old door knobs as towel hooks, a rust bucket, shoe forms, a brass eagle plaque and various other finds to decorate. I pained the door knobs with metal paint and distressed.

Once more these items were found by the click of a mouse or a click of your mouse! 

Truly an exciting and original way to decorate!

Bantam House Antiques is something to crow about! (Sorry, I couldn't resist.) It's the Etsy shop of Sarah from Georgia, and features primitive, industrial and midcentury goods for your home. This 1930s New Haven travel clock with red leather case is just one of several old travel clocks Sarah is currently offering.

BlackRain4 Antiques & Vintage hails from Texas and has stunning quilts and kitchen goods, plus jewelry, clothing and home decor. But you must see the vintage linens--I'm partial to this Leacock Prints Pink Dogwood set that includes tablecloth and napkins in unused condition!

Rescued Pages Vintage features a wonderful variety of vintage sewing and crochet patterns, books and more. Margarette from Vermont has been sharing these treasures online for ten years. I just love the colors and graphics on this swell 1949 avocado recipes booklet.

Welcome New Member: The Fancy Lamb

The Fancy Lamb is filled with more than 300 wonderful vintage home decor and housewares items, patterns and ephemera, all impeccably presented with beautiful photos. Robin is also a busy crafter, creating handmade delights from vintage components. Her vintage book journals are not only popular on Etsy, but are also available in shops in St. Louis as well as through wholesale orders. And....she is a co-chair of the Etsy Vintage Team Membership Committee. That's a very full plate!



Confession time: The Fancy Lamb is not exactly a "new" member of EVT. You see, when you visit our Etsy Team Page, members are listed in the order in which they joined. When Robin became a Team Leader, her icon was bumped to the top of the list, meaning I skipped over her as I featured members from the general roster. So, a belated welcome to Robin!

The co-chairs of the EVT Membership Committee are our unsung heroes. They receive new member requests and conduct a thorough review of each shop with the help of our 19-member committee. The other Membership co-chairs are:

Welcome New Member: Tipple & Snack

My first impression upon visiting Tipple & Snack was, "What an eye!" The inventory of this well-established Etsy vintage shop includes beautiful jewelry, silver, china, glass and kitchenware. But it's the industrial salvage and fascinating metal pieces that entice a new breed of vintage fans as well.

This rustic metal pharmacy script box is a perfect example. And if you're an artisan, crafter or steampunk aficionado, there are plenty of metal bits and bobs to inspire your creativity.

Everyone wants to know about the name, right? From her Profile: My shop name is taken from a little green book I found a few years ago at the 26th Street flea market in NYC. I love it's jaunty title: "Tipple and Snack". Published in 1931, it's a book full of "good things to eat, and better things to drink". It's written with a great sense of style and a touch of humor, both qualities I admire and aspire to. I just had to use the name for my Etsy shop.
