New Member Spotlight

Shabby chic gypsy eco prairie romatic custom

The Etsy Vintage Team proudly welcomes one of our newest members Kate from Kateblossom!
Kate brings new meaning to taking the old and making it new. Her up-cycle clothing creations are truly one of a kind masterpieces! Each item Hand-died, Hand-sewn, and embellished with fine vintage linens, lace, and/or buttons. Each selection tells a whimsical tale and perhaps peers into Kate's very own childhood dreams. You cannot help but to stop and smell the proverbial roses while browsing her shop. It sparks your own imagination (which is just fine with her). Shes happy to work together with her shoppers & help them create a custom masterpiece.

Meet Kate the owner and creator of Kateblossom
"Hi Sweet Friends! I am Kate and I live in North California with my dear Husband. I love to create unique, earthy, ethereal, sometimes edgy, carefree, fun, country, chic, farm, bridal, ranch, cottage clothes for women and children.. casual, yet with a touch of elegance. I love God, and his Son Jesus, His Word....and pleasing him every day is my goal. What a blessing that he is our creator. "

More from Kate:

"Etsy has been a way for me to use my own creativity. I have always loved Vintage Things, even when I was a little girl at my Grandmothers house. I loved visiting Thrift Stores as a child. I find thrill in taking thrifted or handed down clothing and making them into something new. I also enjoy using bits and pieces of things, kind of like making a collage with clothing. Old lace and lots of different fabrics, buttons and other textiles go into my creations."

...and what a wonderful collage Kate creates!

Fabric Art isn't Kate's only talent...

She enjoys reading, cooking and an array of outdoor activity. All seemingly inspirations for her creations. She has recently written a Historical Fiction picture book that her husband illustrated, and it will be published this Summer!

She has a Second Etsy Store Katerustic where she creates "Handmade Rustic Farm Girl Home Decor Folk Art."

Welcome New Member: The Fancy Lamb

The Fancy Lamb is filled with more than 300 wonderful vintage home decor and housewares items, patterns and ephemera, all impeccably presented with beautiful photos. Robin is also a busy crafter, creating handmade delights from vintage components. Her vintage book journals are not only popular on Etsy, but are also available in shops in St. Louis as well as through wholesale orders. And....she is a co-chair of the Etsy Vintage Team Membership Committee. That's a very full plate!

Confession time: The Fancy Lamb is not exactly a "new" member of EVT. You see, when you visit our Etsy Team Page, members are listed in the order in which they joined. When Robin became a Team Leader, her icon was bumped to the top of the list, meaning I skipped over her as I featured members from the general roster. So, a belated welcome to Robin!

The co-chairs of the EVT Membership Committee are our unsung heroes. They receive new member requests and conduct a thorough review of each shop with the help of our 19-member committee. The other Membership co-chairs are:

Stacie of Rainbow Vintage
Mary of Tipple and Snack
Nora of Treasure Hunt Vintage plus Transient Treasures and Time and Again Fashions

Thanks to their work, you can be confident that every Certified Shop includes only true vintage and antiques, or handmade with true vintage components, and maintains a high level of customer service. Thank you, ladies!

Member Spotlight: Im So Vintage

In the Etsy shop Im So Vintage, fabulous pillows and pincushions hand made with vintage fabric and lace appear side by side with fantastic vintage and antiques finds—everything from office and industrial décor, to books and ephemera, to wonderful china and glassware. We recently talked with the owner, Laura, about her vintage obsession.

Q. When did you develop your love for antiques?
I have loved antiques for as long as I can remember. When I was a little girl, I loved visiting my grandparents because their early 1900s home was filled with fabulous antiques. I would spend hours touching the wood pieces, admiring (but not touching) the delicate glass and china, and reading the old books (okay, I know it sounds a wee bit nerdy). As soon as I was on my own, I began to fill my own home with antiques and collectibles, including some fabulous pieces from my grandmother. Although I of course keep all of the family things, I continually filter other finds in and out of my home. Many of them eventually find their way into my shops.

Q. Describe your favorite day shopping for vintage items—where you go, with whom, what you buy
Thursday is my favorite day of the week because it is auction day. Every Thursday I head out in my trusty van to spend a wonderful afternoon bidding on all things antique and vintage. It is where I get many of the fabulous finds for my two shops and lots of goodies for my home. I also get to spend time with my fellow auction buddies. It’s an afternoon of laughing, swapping stories, and learning new stuff about antiques. Believe me, it’s a never ending learning experience (and I’m not just talking about antiques).

Q. Tell us what you do in your day job, and how you balance that with your Etsy shop.
My Etsy business is my day job now. In the past I have been a talent manager, Hollywood mom, mental health counselor, and real estate broker. WHEW!! Of all the jobs I have had, I love this one the best. I guess it took me quite a while to find my calling. Moral of the story: think about what you loved as a child and kept on loving and turn it into a career. Oh, and I have two grown daughters and two grandchildren. They are the absolute loves of my life and guess what? The antiquing bug is being passed on down.

Welcome New Member: Oh Faro

Among the artisans of the Etsy Vintage Team--those who create with vintage components--few are as well established as Oh Faro from California. Her stunning jewelry and hair accessories designs have been earning raves from Etsy customers for more than three years. And Faro's work is instantly recognizable by the presentation of her pieces over wonderful old black-and-white photos.

Here's an example of both her photo technique and her beautiful designs! Much of her fare caters to brides, including this gorgeous hair clip created from broken rhinestone jewelry.

It's a true pleasure to have Oh Faro become part of the Etsy Vintage Team. Welcome!

Vintage Buzz: Make It (With) Vintage

This 'Shabby Quilted Strips Bag' from
Such and Sort is a fun way to use
old fabric scraps and cutter quilts.

Kitschy little Mice R Nice Charms
come in several colors and have
lots of creative potential. They
are offered by True Colors For You.
Scooping up piles of broken and orphaned vintage jewelry at the local Salvation Army along with sifting through jars and tins of old buttons clinched my vintage addiction. Sorting through my little treasure hoards was at once exciting and relaxing, yet the gratification that came with each acquisition was short-lived. The sense of satisfaction that came each time I found something special drove me to seek more. At some point I had to do something with all this fun junk - thus my first Etsy shop was born as an outlet for my handcrafted-from-vintage creations. I have since found that I'm not the only Etsy Vintagephile that crafts green, using vintage materials both as inspiration and for the very substance of their handcrafted offerings. A search under the 'handmade' category for 'etsyvintageteam' reveals well over 400 items - badges and broochs, pouches and purses and so much more! You'll find plenty of styles too - contemporary, steampunk, country, retro, Victorian and more!

Check out the Pearl and Brass Steampunk
necklace crafted by DRyan327
in her shop, Purple Toes Jewelry.
(In my opinion, she competes for one of the
greatest avatars on Etsy!)
Once you begin searching, it becomes obvious that members of the Etsy Vintage Team enthusiastically practice the three 'R's (reduce, reuse, recycle) - after all, didn't we learn that from our Grandmas who reused everything from foil to raggy old clothes? But not everyone has a stash of vintage goodies to work with, and for those people there is a fabulous hoard offered by the Etsy Vintage Team.
Etsy Vintage Team shops offer a plethora of vintage supplies: fabric, buttons and lace; paper ephemera, beads, buckles and charms, as well as all sorts of intriguing oddments you never even thought of until you found them surfing through fun shops like The Vintage Recycler or 12Karri Elegant Junk Shop (L-R, below).
Whether you're thinking of something crafted from vintage or are looking for supplies to craft something wonderfully unique yourself, the members of the Etsy Vintage team can provide plenty of satisfaction for your creative muse.
