New Member Spotlight

Shabby chic gypsy eco prairie romatic custom

The Etsy Vintage Team proudly welcomes one of our newest members Kate from Kateblossom!
Kate brings new meaning to taking the old and making it new. Her up-cycle clothing creations are truly one of a kind masterpieces! Each item Hand-died, Hand-sewn, and embellished with fine vintage linens, lace, and/or buttons. Each selection tells a whimsical tale and perhaps peers into Kate's very own childhood dreams. You cannot help but to stop and smell the proverbial roses while browsing her shop. It sparks your own imagination (which is just fine with her). Shes happy to work together with her shoppers & help them create a custom masterpiece.

Meet Kate the owner and creator of Kateblossom
"Hi Sweet Friends! I am Kate and I live in North California with my dear Husband. I love to create unique, earthy, ethereal, sometimes edgy, carefree, fun, country, chic, farm, bridal, ranch, cottage clothes for women and children.. casual, yet with a touch of elegance. I love God, and his Son Jesus, His Word....and pleasing him every day is my goal. What a blessing that he is our creator. "

More from Kate:

"Etsy has been a way for me to use my own creativity. I have always loved Vintage Things, even when I was a little girl at my Grandmothers house. I loved visiting Thrift Stores as a child. I find thrill in taking thrifted or handed down clothing and making them into something new. I also enjoy using bits and pieces of things, kind of like making a collage with clothing. Old lace and lots of different fabrics, buttons and other textiles go into my creations."

...and what a wonderful collage Kate creates!

Fabric Art isn't Kate's only talent...

She enjoys reading, cooking and an array of outdoor activity. All seemingly inspirations for her creations. She has recently written a Historical Fiction picture book that her husband illustrated, and it will be published this Summer!

She has a Second Etsy Store Katerustic where she creates "Handmade Rustic Farm Girl Home Decor Folk Art."

Fresh Picks: Delicious Decor

Decorating with vintage fruit motifs is a terrific way to bring bold color to a bland kitchen. Midcentury fruit designs abound in vintage linens, housewares and pottery/porcelain, making it a fun and easy project. Repurposing tip: If you’re stuck with an obtrusive soffit over your kitchen cabinets, hang a row of vintage plates and change them with the seasons.

Welcome New Members:Vintage Stylez, Ann Lloyd Antiques, Jessica Vintage and Fine Vintage Linens

VintageStylez is a lovely clothing shop that offers dresses and separates from the 1940's through the 1970's. Based in San Diego, CA this Etsy shop was opened in October of 2009 but they have been in business for decades. On offer is a wide variety of dresses including a wonderful selection of Sun Dresses and Party Dresses. As they say in their profile: "With our years of buying and selling, we've already made all our mistakes! So our experience brings you style, fit and flare!" (Pictured: Gorgeous Vintage 1950's Blue Brocade Dress w/Full Skirt)

AnnLloydAntiques offers an eclectic mix of vintage and antiques. This West Michigan based couple opened their Etsy shop in November of 2008 but have been "antique dealers and partners in the 'art of collecting' for quite awhile now." Both feel "very fortunate to have a life partner who also loves antiques." Their items range from a large Louis XV Parlor sofa to two small carved bone rings. (Pictured: Pair of Lusterware Boudoir Lamps)

JessicaVintage is home to vintage photographs and ephemera including a nice selection of photo booth shots. Jessica "loves vintage and antique ephemera, paper and sewing stuff like buttons and ribbon." She is based in Oregon and started her shop in December of 2008. "If you are looking for anything paper-related and I don't have it listed... chances are I have it somewhere!" (Pictured:Vintage Imperfect Photo Booth Photo of Lovely Young Lady [1 of 2])

FineVintageLinen is aptly named as this shop offers up a wonderful selection of vintage linens and quilts. This Etsy shop was opened in October of 2008 but as Yvonne says in her profile "it all began innocently enough... many years ago, I decided to scale back an abundant collection of vintage pillowcases and listed them on an internet auction site. It was such fun finding the right home for the right textile that I quit my job..." (Pictured: Pair Unused Cannon Kitchen Towels w/Tag)

FOODIE FRIDAY -- Q is for QUESADILLAS

Around here, when time is scarce, we still like to have a healthy meal. I rarely use any "convenience" foods, so QUESADILLAS make for a health lunch or dinner in a hurry! (just in case you aren't familiar with quesadillas, think "grilled cheese" sandwich, Mexican style)

We keep whole wheat flour tortillas, and good quality pre-shredded cheese on hand, which means we can have healthy quesadillas. I use our grill pan, as it's non-stick so no added fats are needed. Get the pan fairly hot, warm the tortilla on both sides so it's softened, sprinkle cheese on half, fold over, cover and grill on each side until the cheese melts and the tortilla is a bit crisp. You can add chiles, cooked meat or shrimp, etc.... (in the lead photo, taken last Saturday, I served the quesadilla with a side of refried beans and a mango-avocado salad)

Here are a couple of vintage treasures that would add some real Mexican style to any table setting:

Welcome New Members: Bantam House Antiques, BlackRain4 and Rescued Pages Vintage

Bantam House Antiques is something to crow about! (Sorry, I couldn't resist.) It's the Etsy shop of Sarah from Georgia, and features primitive, industrial and midcentury goods for your home. This 1930s New Haven travel clock with red leather case is just one of several old travel clocks Sarah is currently offering.

BlackRain4 Antiques & Vintage hails from Texas and has stunning quilts and kitchen goods, plus jewelry, clothing and home decor. But you must see the vintage linens--I'm partial to this Leacock Prints Pink Dogwood set that includes tablecloth and napkins in unused condition!

Rescued Pages Vintage features a wonderful variety of vintage sewing and crochet patterns, books and more. Margarette from Vermont has been sharing these treasures online for ten years. I just love the colors and graphics on this swell 1949 avocado recipes booklet.

With diverse interests but a common love of vintage and antiques, we're pleased to have these shops join the Etsy Vintage Team. Welcome!

Initially Yours

12Karri presents this beautifully monogrammed set of Silver Art Deco Gentleman's Brushes.
One of today’s significant fashion trends makes a very literal statement as monogramming has once again become a stylish way to identify yourself. Sifting through piles of old linens often reveals meticulously monogrammed linen napkins and table cloths, carefully stitched in white, delicate handkerchiefs with tiny and ornate initials, and even more humble representations in colorful cross stitch on cotton. Everything from Laverne’s signature ‘L’ to carefully engraved sterling and crystal are once again in mode and vintage items are a nostalgic and beautiful way for you to join the trend.
