Fresh Picks: Proper Prim

“Primitive” generally means an item that lacks sophistication, is naive in its form and typically utilitarian in its function. Early homesteaders, for example, did not have the means to purchase commercial farm equipment, household items and furniture. These things were made on the homestead by hand as needed. In its purest form, primitives are typically handmade, but we tend to also include mass produced utilitarian items such as tools in this category.

If you admire--and desire--primitive style, these finds are glorious examples. My thanks to Sarah of Bantam House Antiques for providing the articulate definition of primitive style.

Welcome New Members: Atticville, Cherry Lipped Roses and Sugar Magnolias

Atticville is the vintage boutique you must see if you're looking for evening wear! This Mississippi shop features an amazing selection of formal gowns from all eras, in addition to its variety of vintage day wear, jewelry and accessories. The pearl and sequin neckline on this 1950s wedding gown is spectacular!

Cherry Lipped Roses from Tennessee is the Etsy shop of a watercolor artist with a passion for vintage jewelry. And I've never seen such an array of antique opera glasses! This stunning 1950s Kramer emerald and white ice rhinestone bracelet is one fine example of her offerings.

Sugar Magnolias (etsy id SugMagnolias) is another fine vintage boutique. Robin from North Carolina has wonderful vintage clothing, jewelry and accessories. I especially love her hat collection, but this early 1950s moss green suit is my absolute fav!

Adding Southern flair to the Etsy Vintage Team, we're thrilled to include these shops. Welcome!
