Scandinavian Style

by jeanne from WonderDiva

As we approach the winter solstice in the Northern Hemisphere and the days grow shorter and darker, we find an antidote in bright holiday lights and decor.  But once the holidays are over and the décor is put away, the month of January can seem cold and drab.

So let's look at the designs of the Scandinavian countries -- Sweden, Norway and Denmark.   They know winter, and they know how to make their environments bright, cozy and functional.  Vintage Scandinavian-made products are a wonderful way to pick up some extremely well-made, beautiful items to brighten your home environment.
Be it a more traditional motif or a midcentury modern style, the color and design of Scandinavian textiles are especially welcome in the winter.

Beautiful , substantial and light-catching,  a Scandinavian glass vase is wonderful all on its own, or would be a splendid place to hold some springs of curly willow.

This midcentury rendition of a classic Scandinavian folk design will never go out of style and will always brighten a room, especially when carried out in beautiful, muted colors.

A coffee cup with a classic folk design is especially apt, because Scandinavians lead the world in per-capita coffee consumption!

Let us not forget Dansk cookware – as beautiful as it is functional, and especially nice for cooking winter meals.

Consider Jarlsberg and Havarti cheese with crackers, rustic bread and fruit, perfectly served  on a classic cheese board.  Then add some dipping sauces or fruit jams served in a cruet set.  YUM.

Pour some wine from a midcentury pewter pitcher that celebrates the earliest Norsemen.

What a lovely Scandinavian selection! I so appreciate you including my Danish Modern fabric. BTW... it is no longer on reserve! The person from Norway who wanted it had a change of heart. :(

Lovely selection of nordic inspiration. Ever since my son started dating a Swedish girl, I've come to appreciate all things nordic too - they are so very different from our Mediterranean flavours.

The pewter pitcher - the slender, graceful handle alongside the strong images is so appealing - I just want to run my hands over it!
