Marlene's Confections

If you have a taste for goodies for your home that look sweet enough to eat then you will love the style and selection that Marlene of HELLO CUPCAKES has to offer in her Etsy shop! She specializes in vintage kitsch and home goods that will add a dash of soft color, nostalgia and whimsy to your decor.

The name of your shop is such a perfectly accurate representation of your items! There is a definite color theme of sweet, soft pastels and really cute vintage kitsch. Is this a direct reflection of your personal taste or is it a theme of sorts that you have worked into your shop? Are you addicted to cuteness?

I do love color especially the colors that were typically used in a 50’s and 60’s household. Vintage kitsch I believe really reflects the cheerfulness, nostalgia and uniqueness off those eras. I wanted my shop to have the kitschy home feel to every item I have at Hello Cupcake Vintage. And yes I am addicted to cuteness ^_^

Do you try to focus on collecting items from a particular era or do you more so go for whatever grabs your eye? What do you collect and display in your own home?

Most of the time I buy things that catch my attention, it could be a paint-by-numbers or a cute deer figurine. A new personal collection I have started is vintage Pyrex, there are so many fun designs to collect.

Many vintage collectors become addicted to the thrill of the hunt and to the interesting stories that sometimes accompany the things they find. Do you have an item that you have kept for yourself because it has such an interesting story that went along with it?

Yes! I like to think there’s a story beneath each item. You can create new memories out of old ones. Just imagine the ceramic dish I have sitting in my cupboard now used to serve as a container for a mother's famous casserole? To me that’s priceless!

It seems the Etsy community is really beginning to embrace it's new vintage shops. Has selling on Etsy been a rewarding experience for you so far?

I simply cannot describe how much I rejoice when a customer mentions that the item they have purchased from my store was the same one they had as a child growing up.

Thanks Marlene for the lovely images... this last one is of a tea pot purchased from Hello Cupcakes sent in by the customer who bought it. So pretty! Marlene is offering blog readers a generous 20% discount in her shop now through April 10th! So hurry on over and find some delicious goodies for your own home!

great interview and wonderful shop! i had a chance to browse through it while getting our etsy shop together.
up until a little while ago, we had an old frig that was my husband's grandmothers. it was pink with snowflake trim on the outside and light blue on the inside. the colors remind me of your shop.
